Job Description

Dobsons is a long established and highly respected organisation which has been operating successfully for the past 40 years. They provide a range of electrical and refrigeration solutions to clients in the agricultural, horticultural, and domestic sectors throughout the wider Bay of Plenty.

They have a reputation for providing a consistently excellent service and a genuine commitment to looking after their clients. To ensure that this continues, they are looking for an experienced technician to join their dedicated team, installing, and repairing refrigeration and electrical systems across the wider Bay of Plenty and the North Island.

The role will suit someone who, along with having experience in a similar role, can work autonomously and manage a job end to end.

You’ll have a practical and mechanical mindset, and you will take full responsibility for each job, which can include:

  • assessing and interpreting the blueprints
  • determining the components and resources required
  • planning and layout
  • fabrication, including welding and soldering
  • installation of new systems and/or repair of existing ones
  • testing, using the correct tools
  • supervising any designated staff or apprentices as required

You will need to be physically fit, able to work at height, and in enclosed spaces, and be capable of lifting heavy objects.

It’s a mobile role, with site visits to customers throughout the North Island. You will need to be time and safety conscious to ensure that you are able to fulfill your servicing schedule. There is a requirement to be on call, with an after hours roster in operation for the team.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Possess and maintain a current Registered Electrical Service Technician (A&B) New Zealand Practicing Licence
  • Have a proven ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams
  • Have competence in installation, termination and troubleshooting of control wiring from drawings
  • Have welding experience, including being able to use oxy-acetylene welding equipment
  • Have experience with PLC’s, VSD’s and 4-20ma controls
  • Be physically fit - be able to lift a minimum of 25kg; can work from ladders and roofs; possess good vision (normal or corrected)
  • Be able to work autonomously to complete a job end to end
  • Have on site supervisory experience
  • Have excellent customer service skills
  • Have excellent organisational skills
  • Have a mechanical and mathematical ability
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Be highly organised
  • Be able to work to a high standard of accuracy, and safety
  • Have a strong customer focus and an ability to engage professionally with a wide variety of individuals
  • Possess a current full and clean New Zealand Driver’s Licence
  • Be willing and able to work to an after hours on call roster
  • Have flexibility to travel on a regular basis throughout the North Island – there is no regular requirement to be away from home overnight
